Every month is wedding season in New York City. Whether it’s an elaborate 300- guest spring wedding at The Edison Ballroom or an intimate 2-person winter elopement in Central Park, you will be sure to hear wedding bells no matter where you go! Our photographers have seen it all! Brides on roller blades (makes for an easy commute to the ceremony location), cocker spaniels in bow ties serving as ring bearers and even Star Wars themed wedding party (complete with lightsabers!) Each love story is unique and there is no right or wrong way to get married, it’s all about what’s special to you as a couple. We recently had the honor of shooting Kerry & Alex who chose the infamous Central Park for their fall elopement and traveled around the city to celebrate their union.
With all the bridal magazines, checklist and wedding websites like The Knot, Wedding Wire and The Broke Ass Bride (talk about being honest!), it’s easy to get overwhelmed with the thousands of suggestions and choices for how to plan your day. But this savy bride, Kerry, knew exactly what she wanted when she contacted our studio; our popular 4 -hour elopement package, natural lighting with minimal editing and candid photos of her big day. She and her fiancé, Alex, chose to keep it simple and invite along their closest family and friends to share in their Central Park Elopement.
Residents of Battery Park, they wanted to incorporate some of their favorite landmarks into their elopement photos. We started out with the engaged pair at the 25-acre public park for wedding party and family photos before the ceremony. The area boasts beautiful views of the New York Harbor, Hudson River and Lady Liberty offering our photographers perfect backdrops!
The bride was stunning in a white one shoulder wedding dress with embroidered belt and full skirt. She styled her hair in romantic waves pulled into a loose bun and topped with a cathedral length veil. We loved her choice of babies’ breath and in-season flowers wrapped in ribbon for the bouquets.
True New Yorkers, the couple hailed a yellow taxi and made their way to Central Park for their ceremony. Ladies pavilion is the perfect location for elopements. It’s easily accessible once you enter the park yet far enough away from the crowds to offer an intimate and quiet setting for a ceremony. (Not to mention its right next to the Lake which is great for wide shots of the entire family)
Opting for an elopement rather than a traditional wedding doesn’t mean you have to cut any corners! Kerry and Alex had family come from overseas to share in their big day. They added personal touches like polka dot ribbons wrapped around bubble favors and chalkboards with arrows for directions to the ceremony location.
After the ceremony the newlyweds strolled through Central Park for portraits before headed downtown to 55th and 6th avenue for photos in front of the famous LOVE sign. Originally created by Robert Indiana as a Christmas card for The Modern Museum of Art, this sculpture can be found in countless wedding photos! We had a great time sharing in the elopement of Kerry & Alex and wish them the best!
